Attend the 2016 Language & Culture Symposium
Are you interested in learning more about the acquisition of languages and intercultural competences in the dynamic cultural environment of academia?
On Monday, the 7th of November, 2016, the University of Groningen organises a symposium with the aim of creating awareness and exchanging information on Language & Culture in an academic and also professional environments.
Language proficiency contributes to effective participation and inclusion in all aspects of studying and working. In addition, it contributes to employability and international mobility in a context of lifelong learning. Fostering individual multilingualism and enhancing linguistic awareness, hence, is of primary importance.
Equally, in our increasing interconnected and globalising world, fostering individual intercultural competence and managing the challenges of cultural diversity helps create an environment for sustainable, and pluralistic society. Therefore, developing specific abilities to strengthen intercultural sensitivity and bridge differing cultural systems is more critical than ever.
The symposium will provide an inspiring framework for participants to discuss strategic policies and practices, share knowledge and know-how, learn from field experts, and network with one another on the effects of language and culture in professional organisations. Attendees will include both students and staff of the University of Groningen, and professionals from companies and organisations functioning internationally within and outside the Netherlands.
